This manual is the result of the work and thinking of so many people.  It is the second version produced by the Secular Student Alliance.  Though we have done some updating and made some additions, much of the content, pictures, and great ideas are due to the wonderful editors of the first edition.  We would like them to know how much we appreciate their contributions.  Editors included Martha Knox and Sharon M. Moss, contributing editors Jende Huang and Robert J. Nekervis II, and additional editing was done by Bri Kneisley, Amanda Metskas, Brian Underwood, Molleen Matsumura, Jeff Dubin, and Stephanie Kirmer.  The editors of this manual alone had over twenty years local campus group running experience between them.  This is to say nothing of the years of experience of all the leaders and volunteers who have given feedback and suggestions.  Freethinkers of the future are in their debt.

It is impossible to thank all others individually, but a few people do need special thanks.

The Institute for Humanist Studies deserves our sincerest regards.  They have been powerful supporters of the SSA for years and we would simply not be where we are today without them.  Please visit their web site (www.humaniststudies.org) and let them know how much you appreciate their support of the Secular Student Alliance.

Brian Underwood stands out for his help in putting together the photos for this manual.  We had no intention of focusing on Brian or even Students For Freethought at The Ohio State University, but he somehow managed to show up in around half the pictures.  The fact that Brian is present in so many pictures is a testament to his hard work in this movement.  He has served and led SFF since his freshman year (though he has since graduated) and has given hundreds of hours to the SSA developing all kinds of online resources for the student movement.   He is one of the hardest-working men in freethought.  Hats off, Brian!

We received many photos from “Humanist Dan” and Bill Bishop, so a special thanks to them.  Our thanks also go to Christy Pomatto for putting together the cover images for this version.

Thanks go as well to Jennifer Hancock, Mary Ellen Sikes, Charlie Lopez, Paul Youk, Michael Valle, Mike Fox, and all the other leaders that helped with this guide.
