The General Advisory Board to the Secular Student Alliance is composed of individuals with knowledge and expertise in the non-profit organization, as well as individuals that have worthwhile contributions to make to the programming, development, overall focus and management of the Secular Student Alliance. This particular tier of the Advisory Board plays an invaluable role in the organization. The General Advisory Board is organized and overseen by the Chair of the SSA Board of Directors .

The function of General Advisors may include:

• Guidance and expertise in the business affairs of a non-profit organization.
• Input into the overall structure, focus and development of the organization.
• A source of ideas and strategy to be employed by the organization.
• A sounding board for ideas generated within the student secular movement.
• A source of ideas for future programming and development.
