Core ValuesSubmitted by NeilPolzin on Fri, 2005-12-23 04:46.
The SSA's mission is to organize, unite, educate and serve students and student communities that promote the ideals of scientific rationality, secularism, democracy, and human based ethics we recognize the following core values. They are listed in order of importance. Community Community empowers secular students with a sense of belonging and the freedom to follow their conscience without fear of rejection. Respect No stigma should be attached to a lack of belief in the supernatural. Likewise, secularists should show respect towards theists. Disagreement and respect need not be mutually exclusive. Education Secularists should continually educate themselves and their surrounding communities about secular world views. Cooperation Cooperation greatly amplifies the power of the many atheist, agnostic, Huamnist, skeptic, and freethought organizations to achieve our shared goals. Humanistic Values (Compassion & Social Responsibility) Compassion and social responsibility should be common place values among secular students. Public Policy Secularists must influence public policy to create a more just, humane world for everyone, and ensure that the rights of the non-religious are protected. ( categories: )
