SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: The Secular Student Alliance wants to help you promote your Darwin Day event to the media in your area.  Please let us know what you're planning on doing and we'll send out a press release about your event.  Just email us the nature of the event (speaker, tabling, debate, etc.), the title if it has one, the time, the location, the best way for the media to contact you, and a sentence or two about why your group is holding a Darwin Day event.  We can take these until Feb. 11th, but the earlier you can send them to us the better.  Send them to enews@secularstudents.org

The birthday of a great man is right around the corner!  Charles Darwin's 199th birthday is February 12, and groups across the country (and around the world!) are gearing up for the party! The religiously dominated holiday season is over, and now the rest of us have some celebrating of our own to gear up for.

"Darwin Day," as the day is widely known, is an international celebration of science and humanity.  Specifically, it's a celebration of the theories of evolution and natural selection, but has broadened to include recognition of the tremendous benefits that scientific knowledge has had on the advancement of humanity.

Charles Darwin So what do you do for Darwin Day? All kinds of things!  Educational symposiums or discussions, birthday parties, art shows, book discussions, lobbying days, games, protests and dinner parties have all been registered at www.darwinday.org.  And secular and freethought groups have long been at the forefront of the celebration.  Why not get your group involved?

You can see past events and current plans here.  The site includes promotional materials created by the Secular Student Alliance, and a registration so that others can see what your group has in mind.  You can even sign up for communications regarding other Darwin Day events!  We've created a page of event ideas of our own.

In addition to sending out a press release about your events before hand, we'd also love to publish pictures and accounts of your events.  Send us these at enews@secularstudents.com - we'd love to share what you're up to!
