Welcome to the Secular Student Alliance’s Speakers Bureau! These Freethought personalities have graciously offered to speak / present / debate on your campus for free, provided you are an official affiliate of the Secular Student Alliance. The Speakers Bureau works as follows: - If you are interested in inviting a particular speaker to your campus, please contact the SSA campus organizer at organizer@secularstudents.org, or fill out our online Speaker Request application.
- Each speaking request is taken on a case by case basis and subject to the schedule availability of the speaker.
- Up to $300.00 may be available to help cover the speaker's travel and lodging fees. This funding is available on a first-come, first-serve basis upon request, and each affiliate is eligible for one funded visit per school year.
If we are able to help bring a speaker to your campus, we ask that your group meets the following requirements: - To make each event worth the speaker's while, we ask that you formulate a thorough promotional plan to generate impressive turnout at your event. We are eager to help you with this.
- We require that you acknowledge the Secular Student Alliance and the Speakers Bureau when introducing the speaker. In addition, you must acknowledge the Secular Student Alliance in all event publicity (flyers, ads, and other promotional material).
- We ask that you take some pictures of the event and give us a short write-up for it that we can publish on our website and in our eMpirical (electronic newsletter). These should be sent to SSA staff within 30 days of the event.
We have developed the following tools to help you plan a spectacular event:
- We've designed the Speaker Event Planning Checklist to help walk you through planning your event. We encourage all groups to check out this resource regardless of experience level!
- For groups planning a debate, we have Dan Barker's sample debate format.
- If you are recording an event, be sure to get the speaker's permission and have him or her sign a waiver. We have a generic waiver available at www.secularstudents.org/waiver
