The Institute for Humanist Studies is looking to hire two new staff members: a half-time editor for Humanist Network News, and a full-time systems analyst/web developer.
The successful candidates will be enthusiastic and collaborative workers who will play unique and critical roles within the organization. Familiarity with humanism is a plus. HNN Editor The editor of HNN will manage content and writers of our weekly e-zine, including providing copy and assigning, editing and copyediting news stories and columns. (The editor will not be responsible for HNN podcasts.) We are seeking candidates with news editing experience (campus newspapers OK). S/he must have demonstrated writing and editing skills, ability to research online, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. S/he must be computer literate, detail oriented and accurate, and have the ability to work independently. S/he must know or be willing to learn some html coding and Associated Press Style. Must work in office 20 hours per week. Tuesday & Wednesday required, other days flexible. Ideal job for freelancers, retirees, and anyone seeking fascinating part-time work. Systems Analyst/Web Developer The systems analyst/web developer will manage the Institute's technology programs and lead its web development projects. S/he must exhibit a deep understanding of various programming languages including: PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS and Javascript. Must have server administration skills, with the ability to securely manage services such as Apache, BIND DNS, FTP, Qmail, etc. Familiarity with Perl, C++, Python and/or C are a plus. Familiarity with Object-Oriented design and implementation is also desirable. The successful candidate will be creative, technically skilled and self-directed.
