Hemant Mehta is the Chair of the Secular Student Alliance's Board of Directors. He is also the editor of their e-Newsletter as well as a voice for SSA's podcasts. Mehta is active with several secular organizations. He is a representative for the Secular Coalition for America, a lobbying organization for Atheists, Humanists, and Freethinkers. He has interned at the Center for Inquiry--International. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago, with majors in both Mathematics and Biology. While there, he also helped establish their first secular student group, Students WithOut Religious Dogma. SWORD has brought speakers such as Dan Barker and Michael Newdow to the student population and has become a haven for Atheists and Agnostics alike. Currently, he attends DePaul University where he is obtaining his Masters Degree and secondary teaching certification. Due to his eBay auction and subsequent church visit writeups, he has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, the Chicago Sun-Times, and the Village Voice, as well as on FoxNewsChannel and several radio programs.
