Hi,

My name is Leslie, and I am a second-semester sophomore at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. I am convinced that I am the only SSA affiliate leader that has been both the President of a Pro-Life club, and the founder of a Freethought Club. In my case, this took place at two different schools, but nonetheless it shows the diversity and uniqueness of my thinking.

Academically, my interests are diverse - I love classical history and historiography, as well as more contemporary cultural criticism and social thought. After I earn a degree, I hope to take time to work for a secular organization, such as the one I am most fortunate to be involved with now - namely, the SSA.

August E. Brunsman IV

Hello SSA forum participants!

I'm August--the executive director of the Secular Student Alliance. I've got a formal bio, but there's more to me than that. As I write this, I'm 29. I've lived in Columbus, OH all my life. I've traveled around the US quite a bit and been to Europe twice. I've been a board member of the Humanist Community of Central Ohio for a few years (maybe three or four). I was their secretary for a while. Before the SSA thing was a paid gig, I worked for the Institute for Humanist Studies as a database/web programmer and reluctant systems administrator. I got married last summer to one Amanda Metskas--we spent our honeymoon in Grand Teton National Park. I'm not hard core about it, but I like to cycle. I've done the TOSRV (www.tosrv.org) three times. In a few years, I plan to go to grad school and study cognitive science.

Thanks to the SSA & August for the great forum idea. I hope to see it grow and become an active community.

I have been involved in secular organizations for about three years now, primarily through Campus Atheists and Secular Humanists at the University of Minnesota (www.cashumn.org). I am currently serving as the group's Advisor, and in the past have been involved as Publicity Coordinator and a member of the Executive Board. I joined the SSA shortly after CASH, and attended the 2004 Conference. I am also involved with Minnesota Atheists as a Director-at-Large on their Board of Directors.

Blair Johnson

It'd seem that posting our name as the "title" works out better than posting "I'm new!" or the standard titles you'd see on intro forums. Right?

Anyway, my name is Blair Johnson. I'm 18, almost 19, and have lived in Southern California all my life. I'm an officer for The Round Earth Society @ Cal-Poly Pomona. Loosely, that means I keep the club organized, update the website as I can, flyer the campus like crazy, and plan events. We've got some great events tentatively scheduled for the next term, so I'm excited.

I'm also Program Director for Camp Quest West, a brand spankin' new camp affiliated with National Camp Quest. I'm tentatively helping out with mini-Camp Quest this year ("childcare" for the kids at the SSA/AAI convention).
